Perkins Merit Scholarships

Perkins School of Theology fellowships and scholarships are based on merit to those applicants who have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average from previous academic work. Perkins Financial Aid Grants are based on need and availability. Each year Perkins offers financial aid to entering degree-seeking students. Each year, nearly 75 percent of Perkins students will receive some form of financial assistance from Perkins School of Theology.  For priority consideration, applicants should apply for admission before February 1. Students entering in the Spring Term are not eligible.

A full listing of Perkins fellowships, scholarships, and grants follows. All scholarships are based on materials submitted for admission to a degree program.  No separate application for merit scholarships is required.

Fellowships

Charles and Elizabeth Perkins Prothro Fellowships

These fellowships for full-time students award full tuition and fees plus an additional stipend of $5,000 for three years for related educational expenses. To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must be admitted to the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree program prior to February 1. Students entering in the spring term are not eligible. If you have a 3.20 cumulative grade point average from your previous academic work, you will automatically be considered for a merit-based fellowship or scholarship. Recipients are required to complete a minimum of twenty-four term hours each academic year. Renewal of the award requires maintenance of at least 3.2 overall grade point average.

Charles and Elizabeth Perkins Prothro Fellowship Awards are awarded on a rolling basis to those M.Div. degree applicants who demonstrate potential for leadership in a parish ministry setting, who have outstanding qualities of character and leadership, and exceptional academic achievement. Each Fall three fellowships are awarded to entering Master of Divinity (M.Div.) students.

Scholarships

Prothro Promise for Ministry Scholarships

These scholarships for full-time students award full tuition and fees. To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must be admitted to the specified degree program prior to February 1. Students entering in the spring term are not eligible. If you have a 3.20 cumulative grade point average from your previous academic work, you will automatically be considered for a merit-based fellowship or scholarship. Recipients are required to complete a minimum of twenty-four term hours each academic year. Renewal of the award requires maintenance of at least a 3.2 overall grade point average.

Prothro Promise for Ministry Scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis to those degree students who have exceptional promise for ministry and can clearly articulate vocational goals in service to the church.  Each Fall three MDiv and one MTS, MSM, or CMM scholarships are awarded.

Dean’s Honor Scholarships for Dallas Program Students

These scholarships are for full-time entering students enrolled for twenty-four term hours each academic year (twelve hours each regular Fall and Spring term) in the MDiv, CMM, and MTS degree programs.  Award amounts are listed on the corresponding cost summary.  Renewal of the award requires maintenance of at least 3.0 overall grade point average.  To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must be admitted to the specified degree program prior to February 1. Students entering in the spring term are not eligible. Dean’s Honor Scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis to those degree students who demonstrate a considerable commitment to the life of the church and significant leadership in school, church, and community. 

Dean's Honor Scholarships for Extension Program Students

Entering part-time students enrolled for a minimum of six term hours each full semester in any degree program at our Houston-Galveston Extension Program may be considered for one of these awards.  Once a student has completed their coursework in the extension program, he or she must complete at least 24 hours on the Dallas campus enrolling full-time (twelve hours each Fall and Spring term). These scholarships are offered based on merit to those applicants who have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average from previous academic work.  Award amounts are listed on the corresponding cost summary. Renewal of the award requires maintenance of at least a 3.0 overall grade point average.

The Extension Program Scholarship is open to applicants who demonstrate a considerable commitment to the life of the church and significant leadership in school, church, and community.  To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must be admitted to the degree program prior to February 1. Students entering in the spring term are not eligible. Awards are made on a rolling basis.

International Program Scholarships

A limited number of full-tuition international scholarships are available to M.T.S., C.M.M. and M.S.M. students who are citizens of countries outside the United States. A separate application is not required. Review is based on materials submitted for admission to the degree program. This is a two-year award for completion of the two-year international student program at Perkins. Depending on available funds, these scholarships also may provide assistance with housing, medical insurance, and a stipend. Award amounts are listed on the corresponding cost summary. The deadline for receipt of the International Program admission application and materials is December 15 for Fall enrollment.
