April 12, 2012 Project Transformation is a summer literacy program that is offered in five cities across Oklahoma. Our sites are located in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Bartlesville, Muskogee, and Mangum. Our program utilizes college students to serve as interns to help facilitate the educational, social, and emotional growth of at-risk elementary aged children. We run Monday-Thursday through the months of June and July.
We also employ two House Chaplains in Oklahoma City and Tulsa to organize our larger groups of interns (14-16 members), help out each week at our camp sites, and monitor team meetings, meals, and implement group devotionals. House Chaplains are required to attend the sites in their city (two in Tulsa and OKC) once a week to help with activities as needed, hold weekly meetings with all interns in their city, and make sure the required meals are attended (Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings). The rest of their time is free for them to complete school assignments (if applicable), work on projects, or any other personal activities they may have.
Room and board are provided, most meals, and a $3,000 stipend that is divided into 5 paychecks throughout the summer. Training takes place in Tulsa at Camp Loughridge May 21st-25th and then on-site (in the city they are placed) May 29th-June 1st. Camp begins June 4th and ends July 26th.
