Church Choir Director and Musician at FUMC in Winnsboro, TX

March 31, 2014

First United Methodist Church in Winnsboro, TX (located 21 miles southeast of Suphur Springs) in looking for a Choir Director and a Church Musician.  The person who has served as both our choir director and musician is retiring after 16 years serving our congregation.  He has served as choir director, pianist, and organist.  At present our Sunday morning worship service is traditional.

Our preference would be to have both a choir director and a church musician; however, we are certainly open to having another person with the gifts and talents to both direct and accompany.  We are hopeful of finding a choir director that is experienced in working with a 14 to 16 voice volunteer choir and is comfortable directing both traditional and contemporary music.  We view this staff change as an opportunity to begin moving toward a blended style of worship introducing more contemporary music into our worship experience without losing the rich heritage of our traditional music.  Our new church musician should also be proficient in playing both traditional and contemporary music.  Ideally, our church musician should be proficient in both organ and piano.

Our music program presently consists of a weekly, one hour choir rehearsal beginning at 7:00 pm.  We have one service on Sunday morning at 10:50 am.  We usually have one additional service during Advent as well as services on Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, and Good Friday evenings and an Easter morning sunrise service.  Periodically our church musician is also asked to play for a funeral or wedding.

Contact information

Our budget for this year includes $18,000.00 for both choir director and musician.  This amount is available to compensate either one person directing and accompanying or it may be allocated to two people.  If an interested person must commute a significant distance to and from Winnsboro his or her compensation may be divided between a travel allowance and compensation.

If you would like to pursue either of these positions (or both) please contact:
