OIT Technology News: Winter Break Edition

Happy Holidays!

As we wrap up the year, OIT is busy moving forward on many campus wide projects. In the past two weeks, all courses for the upcoming J-Term and Spring terms were made available for use in Canvas; we launched the pilot phase of a new enterprise wide storage solution; and welcomed three new members to our Help Desk team.

Canvas Courses Now Available. 

All courses for the upcoming J-Term and Spring terms are available for use in SMU’s new cloud-based learning management system (LMS), Canvas. Read about this major step in the Blackboard to Canvas migration.

Cox Infrastructure Project Update 

The following Cox services are designated for unification: networking and security appliances, wireless, VPN, and Active Directory. Find out how these unified services.

The new Help Desk team 

In conjunction with the transitions to Shared Services, several positions were allocated to the Help Desk team in order to provide full time staff on site seven days a week. Meet the people here to serve your technical support needs

Box Project Update 

The Box Project has begun testing with users in our pilot program. Box is our new enterprise online storage solution to replace Locker and will offer unlimited space to SMU students, faculty, and staff for storage of documents and media. Read about this new service coming in 2016.

Embedded Support 

OIT has been working to increase the quality and efficiency of customer service. A new structure has been put in place that places field support and AV/Event support representatives into assigned zones. Learn about this new support model.
