About Inside.SMU, powered by Microsoft SharePoint 2010, is a flexible and powerful web based service designed to assist in team collaboration. This service allows you to easily design websites to fit your specific requirements, including calendars, document workspaces, lists, discussion boards, wiki, blog and reporting tools, to name a few! You can create sites that will allow you to work with specific people across departments. Powerful integration with the new Office 2010 and Office 2011 for Mac has the ability to completely transform the way we create and manage our documentation and ideas.

Requesting a Site

Faculty and staff can request a team site via All team sites will be placed under the requestor's major department in the overall site structure. (For example: Sites are not restricted by organizational affiliation though. So the site owner is free to assign permissions to faculty, staff and student members outside of their department as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Is there a limit to the amount of files I can store on Inside.smu? Quotas are enforced at the main school or Division level. For long term storage, please use locker.smu. As a guideline, each team site should be limited to 5 GB of data storage. Requests for additional storage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  2. How much space do I have for "My Site"?
    Each MySite is limited to 20 MB of data.
  3. Are there any types of files that can't be stored on Inside.smu?
    All file types are supported. Any Microsoft Office application offers the ability to edit within the browser as well as opening the application. Non Microsoft applications can be stored and accessed within Inside.SMU but will not have all the same editing functionality.
  4. Are there specific browser requirements to access Inside.smu?
    Inside.SMU is compatible with all major browsers (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox and Chrome). For best results, the site should be added to your Trusted Sites.
  5. When should I use Inside.SMU rather than or
    To determine which application to use, simply identify the audience and contributors for the wiki or blog. If the audience includes Students or external individuals, Inside.SMU will not be the suitable solution for now.
  6. Is Inside.SMU a replacement for our departmental website?
    Because Inside.SMU is only available to a limited audience, it is not a replacement for your departmental/school website.
