Professor of Teaching and Learning
Patricia G. Mathes, Ph.D., is a professor of Teaching and Learning in SMU's Simmons School of Education and Human Development and a former classroom and reading teacher. She holds the TI Endowed Chair in Evidence-Based Education and her research into early interventions for struggling readers is nationally respected. In 2006, Mathes was nominated by President Bush to serve on the National Institute for Literacy Advisory Board.
Her current projects include the development of Computer Adaptive Testing tools to provide teachers and schools with continuous progress monitoring data of literacy growth for children from pre-kindergarten to grade 12; examination of the role of technology in supporting teachers to implement Response-to-Intervention in early reading; and providing coaching support to teachers using technology.
