Classical ballet, evocative jazz and energetic contemporary works share the stage for the Meadows Fall Dance Concert Nov. 4-8 in the Bob Hope Theatre of SMU's Owen Arts Center.
Featured will be Gerald Arpino’s Birthday Variations, a romantic and nuanced ballet with music by Verdi, which The New York Times praised as a “sparkling showcase of classical dancing.”
The program also includes an intimate new work by jazz artist Danny Buraczeski set to Deep Ellum Nights by SMU professor and composer Simon Sargon; a dark and smoky clarinet creates a mood of quiet melancholy for this exploration of memory.
Rounding out the concert are Robert Battle’s rousing Battlefield, and a new work created by SMU senior dance students Lee Duveneck and Corinna Phillips titled Zero Sum.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $13 adults, $10 seniors, and $7 students/SMU faculty & staff. For tickets or more information, call 214-768-2787.
