A Day at the Beach with Sorolla!

Join us for this family day celebrating the exhibition, Sorolla and America.  Through activities incorporating movement, sound, touch, taste and smell, visitors of all ages and abilities will enjoy a multisensory exploration of works by Joaquín Sorolla.

Plein air Painting – Sculpture Plaza

Feel the warmth of the sun, the cool shade of a tree or a gentle breeze while you paint out of doors just as artist Joaquin Sorolla did.

Seaside Collages – Jones Great Hall

Create your own seascape using textured papers that help to capture the feeling of a sandy beach or cool coastal waters.

Artist Demonstration – Bob Smith Auditorium

Visit artist John Bramblitt and learn how he creates colorful paintings using only his sense of touch.

Multisensory Scavenger Hunt –  Sorolla and America Exhibition, 2nd Floor Galleries

Discover details in Sorolla’s paintings using all of your senses! Smell flowers and fruit in a beautiful garden, or the salt air near the seaside.  Feel the sand depicted in his beach scenes or the rich fabrics captured in his portraits.  Listen to sounds that help you imagine what you might hear if you stepped into one of Sorolla’s paintings! 

Castanets Demonstration

Learn about the traditional dance and music from Andalusia in relation to Sorolla’s painting, Dancing at the Café Novedades.

Create spring flowers or fans and color Easter scenes from past White House Easter Egg Rolls. (10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.)

Barney Cam and Story Time – Classroom

See Barney and Miss Beazley’s Spring Garden Tour and hear stories read by docents of the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum. (10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 1:00; concurrent with Spring Crafts)

“Know the Situation” Presentation – Situation Room

Learn about the history of the Situation Room as you sit in the Library’s reconstructed White House Situation Room; presentations offered every half-hour.  The final presentation begins at 1:30 p.m.

The Art of Leadership: A President’s Personal Diplomacy – Temporary Exhibit Gallery

See The Art of Leadership: A President’s Personal Diplomacy which explores the relationships that President George W. Bush forged with world leaders to shape international policy and advance American interests abroad.  Ticket to exhibit required.

Musical Performances – Freedom Hall and Freedom Plaza

Experience the music of spring as you listen to local groups perform at every hour on the half hour.

Enjoy the beauty of the Texas landscape in the Native Texas Park on the grounds of the Bush Library and Museum. 

Texas Landscape Bingo

Search through the park for the native Texas plants on your bingo card.  Find all of them and turn your card in for a prize!

Native Texas Park Walking Tour

Follow the winding path through the Native Texas Park and expand your knowledge of the native plants found there. 

Wildflower planting

Become a Native Texas gardener!  Kids will have a chance to plant Texas wildflower seeds in their very own eco-tainers to take home with them.
