DALLAS (SMU) — SMU linebacker Cameron Rogers is one of nine college scholar-athletes The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) will recognize at the NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas' fifth-annual banquet on March 21 at the Marriott Quorum in Addison, Texas.

Rogers, who earned his undergraduate degree in sports management prior to his senior season, played in eight games for the Mustangs in 2012, starting six before suffering a season-ending injury. He had 18 tackles, including one for loss, and added an interception return for a touchdown, returning the ball 96 yards against SFA. He was part of an SMU senior class that played in a school-record four consecutive bowl games. He is pursuing his graduate degree in liberal studies.

"We are incredibly proud of this year's scholar-athletes and special honorees," said Gerald Brence, president of the NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas. "We've reached the five-year mark in our chapter and these athletes continue to impress, not only on the field competitively but also as academic scholars and young community leaders."

The event, starting at 6 p.m., will showcase the great stories in North Texas that will inspire future student-athletes to excel in the classroom and become more involved in their communities. The event will also pay tribute to several outstanding individuals for their contributions to the game and the North Texas region. College Football Hall of Fame inductee John Wooten (Colorado) will accept the Distinguished Texan Award, the group's most prestigious honor, while Ruth Altshuler, the noted Dallas philanthropist and businesswoman, tops the list of other honorees as the recipient of the chapter's Contribution to Amateur Football Award winner.

The event has attracted a sellout crowd of 500-plus people each of the past four years. For more information on 2013 tickets and/or banquet sponsorship opportunities, please contact club president Gerald Brence at 469-878-5370 or via email at Gerald.Brence@pisd.edu.
