International Education Week at SMU set for Nov. 11-15

SMU's International Student Services is promoting cross-cultural understanding this week.

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU’s International Student and Scholar Services is promoting cross-cultural understanding and further international education through International Education Week, Nov. 11-15. For students, faculty, and staff the weeklong festivities are designed to provoke thought and discussion along with fun activities, food and prizes.

“This week gives all students a chance to meet other international students, learn about other cultures, and be exposed to the diversity on our campus that they may not even know about,” says Pamela Bishir, SMU international services specialist.

INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK SCHEDULE:

International Education Week at SMUMonday, Nov. 11 – “Real Talk”

Noon, Hughes-Trigg Portico BCD

A lunch discussion cosponsored with Multicultural Student Affairs Office on controversial international issues for all students, faculty and staff.  Free pizza will be provided with a chance for prizes.

Tuesday, Nov. 12 – Celebration Lunch

11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Hughes-Trigg Ballroom

A celebration lunch for international students to wear their traditional clothes, enjoy free food and dancing with music by the Obscure Dignitaries. All students are welcome to attend a cultural fair in Centennial Hall to learn about on and off campus cultural organizations. 

Thursday, Nov. 14 – Crossing Borders Film

6 p.m., Hughes-Trigg Theatre

A free movie screening of Crossing Borders, a film about four U.S. and Moroccan students who travel together and learn about each other, co-sponsored with Fondren Media Collection. Free popcorn and snacks will be provided.

Friday, Nov. 15 - Crossing Borders Dialogue

Noon, Hughes-Trigg Forum

A brown bag lunch discussion co-sponsored by SMU Abroad. Students will have the opportunity to share their own international education experiences and win prizes.
