Corporal punishment in the schools

June 28, 2012

Deana Pollard Sacks, host of KPFT's "Open Journal" interviewed Psychology Professor George Holden of SMU and Elizabeth Gershoff, associate professor of Human Development and Family Sciences at the University of Texas - Austin, about corporal punishment in school on June 27, 2012.

Research by Holden, a national authority on spanking, focuses on understanding the determinants and significance of the parent-child relationship in development.

Gershoff studies how parenting generally and discipline in particular affect children’s development.  She is interested in how parenting affects children differently within contexts of poverty and low income, neighborhoods, schools, and culture.
