Sue Bierman to direct SMU's Altshuler Learning Enhancement Center

Sue Bierman has been appointed Director of SMU's Altshuler Learning Enhancement Center, Provost Paul W. Ludden announced Tuesday.

"Dr. Bierman has been with the Center for five years, and has established herself as an academic leader at SMU," Ludden said. "She is highly regarded by her colleagues at A-LEC and around the campus." 

The center provides learning assistance for undergraduate students by helping them focus on strengthening reading, writing and comprehension skills, as well as preparation for tests and time management.

Bierman has worked and supervised the support of student athletes at SMU in the Altshuler Learning Enhancement Center since 2006.  She also has participated in university committees such as SLING, Academic Records Committee, Transfer Committee, Summer School and Athletic Council. 

She received her B.S., M.S, and Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. Her major fields of study are psychology, counseling, and higher education administration.

Before joining the A-LEC staff, she was an assistant professor and coordinator for Student Services at Butler University. Bierman has taught courses in ethics, psychology and statistics. She also has worked in residence life, student activities and athletic advising.
