Journalism Assistant Professor Jake Batsell Awarded National Fellowship

Tribune Welcomes New Fellows to Their Austin Office

Jake Batsell, assistant professor in the Division of Journalism, has been named one of two national  recipients of a new Tribune Fellowship, launched this year by the Austin-based Texas Tribune digital news organization with the help of a gift from the Knight Foundation. The purposes of the fellowships are to investigate “best practices in nonprofit news and ways in which the economic model supporting public media can be tweaked to provide more plentiful, stable and predictable resources.” According to the Tribune, Batsell will “have a charge to travel the country and the globe, collecting, chronicling and disseminating juicy bits about all the innovative and impactful (and hopefully replicable) work going on.”  He begins the one-year fellowship on August 1, and will be based in Austin.
