Two Meadows Graduate Students Will Perform With Irving Symphony on Saturday

Hando Nahkur and Ekaterina Gumenyuk, graduate students of internationally renowned pianist Joaquin Achucarro at SMU Meadows, have been invited to perform Rachmaninoff concertos with the Irving Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, April 13 at 8 p.m. as part of the orchestra’s “Romantic Extravaganza” concert. Gumenyuk will play the composer’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, and Nahkur will play the Concerto No. 3 in D Minor.  Gumenyuk, who is from St. Petersburg, Russia, and Nahkur, a native of Estonia, will both receive their Performer’s Diplomas from SMU in May.  The pair were filmed in rehearsal today with Irving Symphony conductor and Meadows alumnus Hector Guzman (M.M. ’83) and will be seen on the 5 p.m. newscast  of Univision Channel 23 this evening (April 9).
