SMU Undergrad Curates Exhibition at the Dallas Museum of Art
Veronica Treviño, a senior art history major, curated an exhibition of prints called “Whistler’s Revival” that was on view from February to July 2009 at the Dallas Museum of Art. The exhibition highlighted Whistler’s etchings and how they inspired his contemporaries to use etching as a unique form of artistic expression rather than simply a mode of reproducing images. Treviño, who had studied the history of prints in a class with associate professor Lisa Pon, prepared this exhibition during a 2008 summer internship under the supervision of DMA associate curator of European art, Dr. Heather MacDonald. Treviño describes her work on the exhibition as “an invaluable experience, allowing me to apply what I had learned in class to a real world situation, melding theory with application.” Prof. Pon adds, “Veronica’s thoughtful and elegant exhibition is one example of the wonderful opportunities offered by local institutions like the DMA. I’m looking forward to other projects in which our students can bring the skills they learn in class into the arts community beyond SMU.”
