CTV Student Elizabeth Johnston Given Award from Women in Film.Dallas
Elizabeth Johnston, a senior Cinema-TV major in Meadows, received $2,500 toward her SMU tuition by winning the Annual Women in Film.Dallas undergraduate scholarship fund.
Women In Film.Dallas (WIF.D) is part of a global community committed to empower, promote and mentor its membership in film, television and new media. The Dallas Women in Film Scholarship awards one undergraduate tuition award of $2,500 and one graduate level finishing fund award of $5,000 annually to Texas women studying media production.
This is the first time an SMU student has won this prestigious award. When asked about her achievement, Elizabeth commented, “I was very thankful to receive this award, and surprised that I was the first student from SMU to get it because I know there are so many talented women in the film department at SMU.”
The awards were announced on October 8 during the Chick Flicks Film Series and Festival held at Dallas Studio Movie Grill. The Chick Flicks Film Series and Festival celebrates talented women throughout Texas, not only in the film industry, but also in video, television, and new media. Elizabeth encourages all female film students to apply for such awards. “It can’t hurt,” she explained, “and at the very least you’ll get your name out into the filmmaking community.”
