David Mancini
Associate Professor of Music Theory, Director of Graduate Studies
David Mancini, associate professor of music theory, has been on the faculty of Southern Methodist University since 1984. He served as head of music theory and composition at SMU from 1986-2002 and resumed that role in the fall of 2009. Dr. Mancini holds the Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Rhode Island College, the Master of Music degree in Music Theory from the University of Cincinnati, and the Master of Philosophy and Ph.D. degrees in Music Theory from Yale University.
He has published articles on theoretical topics in the Journal of Music Theory and the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy and has given numerous presentations at meetings of national organizations such as the Society for Music Theory, the College Music Society, and regional organizations such as the Texas Society for Music Theory and the South Central Chapter of the College Music Society. In Italy, he has given guest lectures in Florence and at the University of Calabria.
Among Dr. Mancini's teaching and research interests are the analysis of contemporary music, the pedagogy of music theory, and Italian opera.
