Martha Gerhart
Vocal Coach, Diction teacher
Martha Gerhart relocated to Dallas in the fall of 1997 to teach at Southern Methodist University after having enjoyed a prestigious career as a vocal coach/pianist based in New York City.
Ms. Gerhart has been on the music staffs of The New York City Opera, The San Francisco Opera, The Dallas Opera, and many other opera companies. Eight times a master coach with San Francisco Opera’s Merola Opera Training Program, she has also been a guest faculty member at singers’ training programs such as OperaWorks Summer Intensive Program (Los Angeles), Sarasota (Fla.) Opera’s Apprentice Artists Program, The Pittsburgh (Penn.) Opera Training Program, and the Glimmerglass Opera’s Young American Artists’ Program (Cooperstown, NY).
She is the author of Italian Song Texts from the 17th Through the 20th Centuries, published by Leyerle Publications, and the translator of line-by-line texts published in many of The Hal Leonard Corporation’s Vocal Library Series, including their popular Opera Anthologies.
