Student Resources

Students in the Division of Journalism are encouraged to work for the media resources on campus. The Daily Campus is the independent student newspaper. SMU-TV and KPNI radio are operated by the Division of Journalism, as is the convergence Web site, www.smudailycampus.com. Additionally, internships for all media disciplines are widely available in the extensive media market in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Students also have opportunities for obtaining credit hours in the SMU-in-London program each summer. Students are encouraged to take advantage of London's stature as an international center for media, current affairs and social and cultural events. SMU also has a cooperative program with American University in Washington, D.C., that allows students to obtain credit hours for classes in journalism or other disciplines. Special classes are also organized on a frequent basis in response to major news events, such as political conventions. Internship credit is available for work done in conjunction with media organizations as a part of these special classes.

The Sammons Lecture in Media Ethics and the O’Neil Lecture in Business Journalism bring to campus top professionals in journalism and business to speak and interact with students. Visiting lecturers are frequently available for small-class discussions as well as for interviews with student media.
