Pam Harris
Visiting Lecturer
Pam grew up in Fort Worth, TX. She is a veteran Journalist who has more than 22 years of experience in the Television Industry. Pam is a freelance reporter at KTVT-CBS11. She is also teaching several Journalism classes at Southern Methodist University. Pam is also a freelance Field Producer for the nationally syndicated television show Inside Edition, and has also co-produced parts of The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Making the Team, 8-part series which aired on Country Music Television (CMT).
Pam began her career at KTVT-TV in Fort Worth when it was an Independent Network. Two years later she moved to Waco, Texas to anchor the 6:00p.m. and 10:00p.m. newscasts at the ABC affiliate (KXXV-TV). She covered national stories in Waco, such as the Branch Davidian Standoff and the Luby’s Massacre.
In 1996, she returned to the Dallas/Fort Worth television market to anchor and report at KXAS-TV/NBC 5. She covered the Education beat and broke the biggest story to come out of the Dallas Independent School District, uncovering the story of the Superintendent embezzling from the DISD. Pam has also worked at WFAA-TV as a freelance reporter, and as an anchor at Texas Cable News (TXCN). For three years, she assisted students at the Academy of Media Arts and Technology at R.L. Turner High School in Carrollton, where she co-hosted and produced a monthly television show with students in the Academy.
Since 1998, Pam has assisted Southwest Airlines with its Media Training, preparing Southwest employees to become more comfortable in communicating with the media. She has also assisted and coached other companies in how to "deal with the media".
Pam’s honors include 19 Texas Public Relations Association Awards, Two Texas School Bell Awards, The American Cancer Society’s Texas Media Award, The Arthritis Foundation Journalism Award, The Anson Jones Medical Media Award and the award of Distinguished Graduate at Southwest High School.
Pam received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications from The University of Texas at Austin. Pam is a life member of the Texas Exes Alumni Association, and has been a board member for the American Cancer Society and the Arthritis Foundation. She is also an alum of the Delta Gamma Sorority and a former Junior League member. Pam and her husband Steve live in Dallas.
In her spare time she enjoys the outdoors; running, camping, hiking, bicycling and spending time with her five dogs.
