Fall Dance Concert
November 10-14, 2010
8:00 p.m. Wed.-Sat.; 2:00 p.m. Sun.

Exciting and evocative contemporary and jazz works highlight the Fall Dance Concert. Pilobolus Dance Theatre's masterwork Alraune, an intertwining duet rich in imagery and metaphor, will be presented, as well as Adam Hougland's contemporary ballet Beyond, a hyperkinetic piece of dance theatre dealing with fear of the unknown. The concert also includes a powerful septet by Danny Buraczeski set to jazz legend Charles Mingus' celebrated tone poem Pithecanthropus Erectus, inspired by the early human fossil discovered in Java. Rounding out the program will be new works by internationally known choreographer William Soleau and new SMU jazz dance faculty member Millicent Johnnie.
Spring Dance Concert

Among the variety of works to be showcased in the Spring Dance Concert is Vigeland's Garden by new faculty member Christopher Dolder, inspired by the seminal work of Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland. The Darwomoam comedy/drama interprets the cyclical patterns of nature - birth, life, death and rebirth - as they play out in the animal kingdom.
