The M.F.A. in Dance and Practice is a 60-credit-hour program which requires two academic years for completion, including a three-week summer workshop. The M.F.A. program focuses on the development of the dance artist/scholar.
Components of the program include studio-centered courses that examine and analyze all aspects of dance composition, from the development of original choreography and the analysis of masterworks of choreography to the practice of teaching skills as a dance director. To complement the practical components of the program, critical and analytical courses have been developed to include dance history and criticism, Labanotation, kinesiology and teaching methodology. Students are encouraged to explore interdisciplinary study in the Meadows School Divisions of Music, Theatre, Art and Art History. A final performance project, including a project notebook, completes the course of study.
