The Meadows School of the Arts, formally established in 1969 at SMU in Dallas, has achieved prominence as one of the foremost arts education institutions in the United States. Learn more about SMU Meadows
The Meadows School of the Arts serves the public as a significant cultural center by presenting more than 400 events annually for the Dallas community and surrounding region.
Dallas has a lot more to offer than professional sports (Go Cowboys, Mavs and Stars!), world-class shopping (NorthPark, the Galleria, the Design District and more) and restaurants for every taste (Tex-Mex, barbecue, Indian, European and more). Dallas is also a top-five media market and home to numerous Fortune 500 companies. The Division of Communication Studies works closely with an advisory board of individuals from companies and organizations such as Celanese, Kimberly-Clark, Wells Fargo Bank, Levenson & Brinker Public Relations and more. Forbes magazine lists Dallas in the top ten of its “Best Places for Business and Careers.” Add in the nation’s largest urban arts district, complete with world-class museums and architecture, and you have a city that is rich with opportunities for motivated communication students.
Communication Studies students can network with the pros from Dallas-area companies through SMU’s PRSSA chapter. Visiting industry professionals come to campus and share stories about life in the corporate, nonprofit and political worlds, and offer advice on how to forge a communications career. Internship opportunities in Dallas are plentiful for ambitious students; recent internships have been held at Southwest Airlines, Burson-Marstellar, PepsiCo and more.
