Visual Resources Library
The Lady Tennyson d’Eyncourt Visual Resources Library hosts a growing digital collection of nearly 60,000 images and 275,000 slides of art and architecture, from Pre-Historic to Contemporary, available for campus users.
A division of the Meadows School of the Arts, Department of Art History, the VRL is located in the basement of the Hamon Arts Library, room B250 in the Owen Arts Center. Hours for the VRL are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
VRL Images Kiosk is the web interface for accessing and downloading digital images from the Lady Tennyson d’Eyncourt Visual Resources Library. The collection contains licensed images from the National Gallery of Art, the Museum of Modern Art and the Archivision World Architecture Collection, and images for costume and theatre set design. Of particular interest for the SMU community are digital images of the Meadows Museum collection. The conversion of the existing collection of 275,000 slides to digital is ongoing, but campus users may check out slides during library hours.
Because the VRL Images Kiosk is accessed and maintained through a secure SMU intranet site, the resource is available for most educational uses, including teaching, research, lectures, presentations, Black Board and class papers. Sharing images outside the SMU community, publication in print, publication on the web or linking to Internet sites is prohibited.
To access the Kiosk from campus computers, visiting vrlimages.smu.edu and use the current Kiosk password (changed at the beginning of each semester). From home or when traveling, SMU users will sign in to the SMU VPN services through securenet.smu.edu with SMU ID and University Password to access the Kiosk. Send an e-mail to email@example.com from an SMU e-mail address to obtain the current Kiosk password.
