My name is Carla Armstrong and I’m from Houston, Texas where I finished high school at Cypress Woods High School. I am a freshman at Southern Methodist University and majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
I am also a member of the SMU Women’s Volleyball team. Being a student athlete is challenging at times, but the joy of being able to continue playing the sport I love in college while working towards my degree makes it all worthwhile. We travel a lot for volleyball, so there are many occasions when I have to manage my time on the road doing homework.
As I continue in the Mechanical Engineering program, I know I will have to manage my time more wisely because of the increasingly intense work load I will be faced with, but I welcome the challenge.
My freshman year has been a lot of fun so far. The volleyball team has been working very hard this season and we even beat Tulsa, one of the top teams in our conference, and stopped their season and a half winning streak! My classes have also required much studying to stay on top of things. I am very proud to say I made a 100 on my first Calculus II Exam!
I look forward to the next few years on the volleyball team and can’t wait to get more involved with the Lyle School of Engineering!
