Name: Jeff Bradley
Hometown: Londonderry, NH
Major: M.S., Environmental Engineering
Class of 2005
Thanks to the Lyle School of Engineering's distance education program, Jeff Bradley was able to continue his studies - even during a recent deployment to the Middle East.
Jeff serves as an executive officer with the Army's Combat Engineer Company headquartered at Fort Polk, Louisiana. When not deployed, his company focuses on realistic combat training as well as honing its construction skills on numerous projects dealing with border control.
During the recent war with Iraq, Jeff's company was deployed to Kuwait and then Iraq to help provide force protection and basecamp improvement in Iraq. His battalion also was responsible for the construction of an enemy prisoner of war camp.
Jeff says he was able to continue his studies right up to the moment when he crossed into Iraq, at which time he needed to devote 100 percent of his efforts to ensure successful completion of his assigned missions.
"The faculty, staff and instructor I had were very understanding and flexible throughout my deployment," Jeff says.
A 2000 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Jeff says he picked SMU's Lyle School for graduate school because it offered the "greatest options with qualified staff and instructors."
When he completes his command time with the Army, Jeff says he plans to pursue a career with the Army Corps of Engineers dealing with wetlands and remediation projects of contaminated waterways.
