Lyle Engineering Camp at SMU

The Lyle School of Engineering at SMU offers summer camp programs for students in 7th through 12th grades.  These summer camps are authentically Lyle, as the facilities, staff, and curriculum are all unique to the Lyle School of Engineering.  Camps provide a creative environment for students to learn the fundamentals of engineering through hands-on, interactive team projects.

Each summer we provide two sessions of 11th and 12th grade summer camp (one session for females and one session for males),  two co-ed sessions for 9th and 10th grade summer camp, and two co-ed sessions for 7th and 8th grade summer camp.

Summer Camp for 11th and 12th Grade Students:

This residential camp is designed to give students who are interested in pursuing higher education and careers in STEM fields an opportunity to live on campus in residence halls; be mentored by representatives from the SMU Lyle faculty, students, and staff; and participate in panel and group discussions while working on a real-world, hands-on design project in SMU's Deason Innovation Gym.

Interested students should complete an application that includes an online form, statement of interest, and letter of recommendation.  Details regarding the application process can be found on the "Apply to 11th-12th Grade Summer Camp" page.

2015 student quotes:

“I really enjoyed getting to learn Python and combining both mechanical and electrical engineering.”

Summer Camp for 7th through 10th Grade Students:

This day camp is designed for girls and boys entering 7th through 10th grades in Fall 2016.  Students will explore disciplines of engineering offered at the Lyle School of Engineering: electrical, mechanical, civil, and environmental engineering through hands-on, interactive projects.

This camp is for students who have an interest in engineering, but not an expertise.  By the end of camp, the students will have a solid foundation on which to build upon and encourage them to engage more actively in their math and science classes upon their return to school.  Details regarding the registration process will be on the "Apply to 7th through 10th Grade Summer Camp" page.

2015 student quotes:
