I-20 Process

The following steps are required before any accepted applicant can be issued an I-20 for admission into the Graduate Division of the Lyle School of Engineering:

  1. The Graduate Division must have on file an original or notarized bank statement, converted into U.S. dollars, for the minimum amount of $37,500 for nine months worth of study. Please note that copies are unacceptable and any amount listed below the requirement, cannot be processed. An additional amount of $6,500 will be required for a dependent traveling with you.
  2. All students, except Research Assistants/Teaching Assistants, are required to submit a deposit of $100 U.S. dollars. Once you have enrolled at SMU, you may request a refund. However, if you do not enroll at SMU for the designated term, your deposit is non-refundable.

Please be aware all of these items must be completed before SMU’s International Office will begin to process any I-20 requests.
