Queueing theory provides the theoretical basis for the analysis of a wide variety of stochastic service systems. The underlying stochastic processes are Markov and renewal processes. The course has two objectives: to cover the fundamentals of stochastic processes necessary to analyze such systems and to provide the basics of formulation and analysis of queueing models with emphasis on their performance characteristics.
