Name: Jianing Li
Hometown: Changchun, China
Major: Ph.D. Environmental Engineering, M.S. Interdisciplinary Engineering, B.S. Optical and Electric Information Engineering
Jianing Li graduated from Purdue University-Calumet with an M.S. degree in electrical engineering in May 2011. As a master’s student, he worked in the Purdue Water Institute as a Research Assistant. His research focused mainly on optical sensor development to detect contaminants in wastewater. This research work provided him with the opportunity to learn about wastewater and other environmental considerations, which led to his decision to become an environmental engineering student at SMU.
As a Ph.D. student at SMU, he is working with Professor Sevinc Sengor on research focusing on modeling contaminants transportation both in groundwater and surface water. His electrical and computer science background gives him a strong support in this field. He has also worked as a Teaching Assistant for an undergraduate air quality course.
