Education

B.S. Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Istanbul Technical University, 1978; M.S. Mechanical Engineering, Drexel University, 1982; Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering, Drexel University, 1986

Research Concentrations

Experimental and theoretical fluid mechanics; Plasma applications to aerodynamics; Micro-optical sensor technology

Research Accomplishments and Activities

Developed micro-optical mechanical sensing technology based on the whispering gallery mode (WGM) optical resonators; Developed novel optical measurement techniques based on molecular and particulate scattering, dual-line detection Rayleigh scattering (DLDR), and laser vorticity probe (LVP); Demonstrated a sound barrier based on glow discharge plasma; Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers; Associate Fellow of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics; Fulbright Fellow; SAE Ralph Teetor Awardee for Excellence in Education (1993); Associate Editor, ASME Journal of Fluids Engineering (2001 – 2004)

Research Philosophy

Great discoveries, from fundamental laws of nature to practical inventions, all have one thing in common: open minded thinking driven by a deep sense of curiosity.
