Library Research Cards
Library Research Cards are designed for Postdoctoral/Visiting Scholars or Adjunct Faculty who are specifically performing research or teaching for Southern Methodist University in conjunction with the sponsoring department, but who are not eligible for a regular Faculty/Staff SMU ID card.
The Library Research card is issued for a maximum of one year. The sponsoring department may request a renewal of the research card via this same form.
A Library Research Card may only be used by the person listed on the card and the library may request photo identification when using the card. Library Research Card holders are responsible for following all library rules, including the timely return of materials and payment of fines. Library Research Cards will not be renewed if the account has unpaid library fines. Sponsoring departments will be charged any fees associated with lost library materials when attempts to collect the library materials or fees from the research card holder are unsuccessful.
Visiting scholars who are not performing specific research for SMU and only informally visiting the campus are welcome to use library resources in-house, but are not eligible for borrowing privileges through this program. However, they may be eligible to participate in other borrowing programs such as the TexShare Card Program or OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program; please contact the Circulation Desk for more information on these or other options.
Library Research Cards may only be requested by department chairs, deans, or provosts.
