Housing for J Term in Taos

PLEASE NOTE: All students are required to stay on the Taos campus and pay full room and board. Given the residential environment of the campus, students on disciplinary probation (or higher) are not eligible to participate in J Term courses at Taos. Students with significant conduct histories will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

SMU-in-Taos features striking native architecture for which New Mexico is known as well as beautiful mountain scenery and a variety of hiking trails, fishing ponds and rivers.

The campus is comprised of twenty-four structures, including ten adobe dormitories (casitas) which house a total of 108 students. Each casita has a semi-private sleeping area with bunk beds and a closet and drawers for every student. Electrically heated and "winterized," the casitas also include bath and shower facilities and a large common area with a wood-burning fireplace.

Campus facilities include Fort Burgwin (our historical fort where all classrooms and offices are located), dining hall, laundry facility, and exercise facility. The newly constructed Wendorf Information Commons is home to the Fort Burgwin Library and also contains a student computer lab. An archaeology laboratory, studio facilities, auditorium, and Art Barn support the academic life of the campus.

Unfortunately, our Taos campus is not wheelchair accessible, as described in the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990.
