The Rev. Larry James is the chief executive officer of CitySquare, in Dallas, and also holds an appointment to the clergy staff at Highland Park United Methodist Church. CitySquare fights the causes and effects of poverty through service, advocacy and friendship and is among the largest, most effective social services organizations in Texas. Among the Dallas faith, business and media communities Rev. James is known as a social entrepreneur and committed servant to the people of East and South Dallas. At Highland Park United Methodist Church, Rev. James shares his knowledge and experience about the issues of poverty to help the church further its resources for serving those in need.
Prior to CitySquare, Rev. James served 14 years as senior minister with the Richardson East Church of Christ. A native of Richardson, he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Harding University, and master’s degrees at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Tulane University. His book The Wealth of the Poor was published in 2013. In 1998, he served as executive director for the Greater Dallas Community of Churches.
