Honors Convocation

Instructions for Students

Arrival and Start Time for All Students

Please report to McFarlin Auditorium at 4:30 p.m. The ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. and lasts approximately one hour.

Students Receiving National Fellowship, Departmental, and University Awards

Please report to the box office inside the lobby of McFarlin Auditorium at 4:30 p.m. to receive an index card listing your award.  If you are receiving multiple awards, all will be printed on this card.  It is imperative that you do not lose this card.  After picking up the card, please go to the second floor of McFarlin Auditorium. 

Only students receiving awards are recognized on stage.  During the ceremony, you will be led to the stage by a faculty marshal. As you approach the stage, you will hand your index card to the lector who will read your name.  You will then receive congratulations from Provost Currall, President Turner and your school’s dean/directorOff stage, you will be given a lapel pin, medallion and certificate to commemorate the occasion.
 

Honor Society Inductees and University Honors Program Members

Please report to the basement of McFarlin Auditorium at 4:30 p.m.  When you enter the lobby of McFarlin, take the north or south stairs down to the basement area for line up.  At this time, you will be given a memento to commemorate this special occasion.

A member of the Platform Party will introduce each group during the ceremony.  As each organization name is called, students who are affiliated with the respective group should stand in place at their seats.

 

The Reception

A reception for you and your guests immediately follows the ceremony on the Historic Main Quadrangle. 

SMU does not provide a location to store, nor is responsible for, backpacks, purses, or other personal belongings during the ceremony. Please do not bring these items.
