State of Texas Funded Financial Aid Programs

Required Actions Description
Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG) FAFSA required to determine eligibility
  • Need-based
  • Amount varies: ranges up to $3,518 to $5,277 in 2012-2013
  • Must meet the state residency rules of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
  • After 1st initial award, student must demonstrate financial need and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements
  • After 2nd and subsequent award, student must have financial need, completed 24 hours in the previous academic year, completed at least 75% of all hours attempted and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.500
  • To receive the award for the 3rd year student must have financial need, completed 24 hours (UG) or completed 18 hours (Grad) in the previous academic year, completed at least 75% of all hours attempted and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.500
  • Must be enrolled at least 3/4 time
  • Estimated Family Contribution of $16,000 or less
College Access Loan (CAL)
  • Eligibility is based upon creditworthiness
  • Must meet the state residency rules of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
  • May apply for up to the Cost of Attendance minus any aid student is receiving.
  • Fixed interest rate for the life of the loan. Interest rate set yearly on July 1st.
