Events

Three annual campus-wide events celebrate Engaged Learning. The events recognize the achievement of students, the contribution of faculty and staff, and the opportunities through campus programs and community partners.

The events are open to the SMU community and spread across the academic calendar.

Engaged Learning Expo

The Engaged Learning Expo is typically held the second Monday of classes during the fall semester. It is a three-pronged event celebrating:

  • Students who worked on a wide variety of projects during the summer

  • Campus programs that are already all about student engagement beyond the classroom

  • DFW organizations that would love to have students involved with them

Get Engaged! Networking Reception

The Get Engaged! networking event is held the Thursday before Thanksgiving. It brings together community partners, mentors, advisory committee members and others. It gives students a chance to practice their networking skills with a wide variety of professionals.

Engaged Learning Week

Engaged Learning Week is a 3-day event held the first full week of the spring semester.

Day 1:  Imagine!  Make It Happen!
The kick-off begins with a presentation by a guest speaker motivating students to make their mark on the world, to act on their dreams. It culminates later in the day with a flagpole rally.

Day 2:  Engaged Learning Forum
The forum is the venue for students completing projects to present their work to the campus community.

Day 3:  Open House
The third day is an open house "meet the staff" and buffet luncheon in the Office of Engaged Learning with “How to” workshops.
