SMU is commemorating the centennials of its founding in 1911 and opening in 1915. This commemoration period, from 2011 through 2015, is officially called The Second Century Celebration.
At the same time, SMU is engaged in the largest fund-raising effort in the University's history, SMU Unbridled: The Second Century Campaign, seeking funds for scholarships, academic programs, faculty positions and campus life enhancements.
While each entity (the second century celebration and the campaign) is managed by its own governing committees, both initiatives are represented by the SMU Unbridled 100 logo (right), representing these historic milestones. After consultation with external marketing professionals and internal committees, SMU’s trustees authorized the term Unbridled to symbolize SMU's rise as a premier national and international university. Unbridled represents the unconstrained opportunity and optimism during this special time in SMU’s history.
The logo is secondary to SMU's institutional logo (above left). In recognition of this special time, the Unbridled logo will appear on all University stationery during The Second Century Celebration, through 2015. Other uses of the secondary logo are restricted to approved communications pertaining to the centennial commemoration period or the campaign.
SMU students, faculty and staff should not develop marketing concepts using the Unbridled theme or employing other "un-" words (such as unbound or unleashed) playing on the Unbridled theme without permission from The Second Century Celebration office.
Contact the Office of Public Affairs for assistance in designing campaign or centennial celebration-related materials.
