Embrey Human Rights Program

The Embrey Human Rights Program (EHRP) at Southern Methodist University educates students and other members of the global community to understand, promote, and defend human rights as responsible citizens of the world.

Founded in 2006, EHRP seeks to help individuals and communities recognize the dignity of all people and bring meaningful change to issues that matter.

One of only seven university programs in the United States to offer a major and minor in human rights, EHRP is training a new generation of leaders, educators, entrepreneurs, and changemakers. Expert faculty and staff, led by Dr. Rick Halperin, provide cutting-edge research and practical strategy for improving the North Texas region and beyond. Each year, EHRP leads several human rights education trips across the globe and maintains a full calendar of lectures, screenings, conferences, and trainings. Community members are invited to participate in all of these opportunities.
