The IMPACT Symposia series aims to bring together faculty from across the disciplines and schools at SMU as well as individuals from the broader local and national community to discuss and debate issues of pressing concern.

This IMPACT Symposium involved an interdisciplinary conversation about the past, present and future of our notions of privacy. The keynote speaker, Dr. Frederick Chang (21CT Inc., Austin, Texas), and faculty panelists (see below) explored the multiple meanings and impacts of the concept of privacy from a number of disciplinary perspectives tackling its historical roots, its modes of representation, and the arenas of social life in which it is operative and often challenged—addressing everything from consumerism and credit, to markets, to health, to security, to intimacy.
