The study of foreign languages and literatures lies at the very center of the humanities. Foreign language majors not only acquire skills in reading, writing, and speaking foreign languages, but they also explore and develop an appreciation for the literatures and broader cultures of foreign lands and peoples.
The Spanish program offers students the opportunity to study the language and literature of the Hispanic world, including both Peninsular and Latin American cultures. Students wishing to combine the study of Spanish with that of a second foreign language may pursue the Foreign Languages major with a Spanish emphasis.
