Introductory and Intermediate Courses

FRENCH 1401 - BEGINNING FRENCH, first semester

FRENCH 1402 - BEGINNING FRENCH, second semester

Stresses the four basic skills: speaking, listening comprehension, reading and writing. The classes introduce and practice communication in the language, monitoring progress through audio recordings, compositions, tests, and dictations. Web activities, along with the intensive daily contact format and excellent resources, help students acquire confidence and accuracy. Required assignments in the Foreign Language Teaching and Technology Center, a fully equipped computer and video facility, give students hands-on experience.

Classes meet five days a week.

(Prerequisite for FREN 1402: C- or better in FREN 1401 or consent of area chair.)

FRENCH 2401 - INTERMEDIATE FRENCH

A continuation of Beginning French. This course is designed to strengthen the four basic language skills, with greater emphasis on reading and writing. This builds a firm foundation of vocabulary and structures for oral communication and conversation.

Classes meet five days a week.

(Prerequisite: C- or better in FREN 1402 or consent of area chair.)
