Pursuing graduate and professional degrees advice

Over the last few years sociology majors at SMU have chosen to pursue a wide variety of graduate and professional degrees.  Students who are considering graduate or professional schools are encouraged to make an appointment with the Director of the Sociology Program to discuss possibilities.  Keep in mind that the process of selecting a program, preparing for standardized exams, and submitting applications will take a lot of time and energy.  We recommend that students start the process in their junior year.

The most common professional degrees pursued by Sociology majors at SMU are the following :

  • Law Degree
  • Masters in Public Policy
  • Masters in Health Administration
  • Masters in Social Work
  • Masters in Nonprofit Management
  • Masters in Higher Education Administration
  • Masters in Conflict Resolution
  • Masters in Counseling
