Damien Marken received his B.A. in Anthropology from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 2000 and M.A.'s in Archaeology from the University of Paris: La Sorbonne in 2002 and Anthropology from SMU in 2004. Damien has conducted extensive field and laboratory research in the Maya area, primarily at the sites of Palenque, Chiapas, Mexico, and El Peru-Waka and La Corona, both located in Peten, Guatemala. He is the editor of the book Palenque: Recent Investigations at the Classic Maya Center (Altamira Press, 2007) and in 2009 was awarded a NSF Disstertation Improvement Grant to investigate the hinterlands of El Peru-Waka. Currently a Ph.D. candidate at SMU, Damien's research interests include urbanism, early state development, regional patterns, and ancient Maya culture history.
