Advisor Expectations

What your advisor will expect from you:

  • That you give thoughtful consideration to your personal, educational, and career goals;
  • That you become familiar with your own academic program (majors and minors), including all applicable requirements;
  • That you accept responsibility for your decisions and choices;
  • That you give advance consideration to both your Four-Year Plan and Semester Plan prior to your advising conference for each new term;
  • That you ask questions if you feel you have received insufficient or confusing information;
  • That you provide timely notice and information about any academic problems you encounter;
  • That you read your SMU e-mail and respond to all communications from the Advising Center;
  • That you are on time for your scheduled advising appointments and show consideration for students whose conferences precede and follow yours.
