Japan disaster taps into SMU expert knowledge

As the tragedy in Japan unfolds, SMU faculty experts have become sources for information and clarification to media outlets nationwide, particularly Dedman College Dean William Tsutsui, who was in Tokyo when the earthquake hit and Dedman College seismologist Brian Stump, who explained the earthquake to multiple television and radio outlets.

Breast Cancer Study

SMU health psychologist Georita Frierson, in collaboration with the University of Texas Southwestern Simmons Cancer Center, recently launched a study that examines the psychological and social challenges faced by women fighting Triple Negative Breast Cancer. The research is funded with a two-year, $50,000 grant from The Discovery Foundation in Dallas.

SMU will once again compete in RecycleMania, a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities in their campus communities.
Competing universities will collect and track recycling materials throughout the 10-week competition, which runs from Jan. 23 through April 4.

Dean Tsutsui participates in Japanese American Leadership Delegation program

Dean Tsutsui is one of 13 Japanese American leaders from across the nation selected to join the 2011 Japanese American Leadership Delegation (JALD). The delegation will travel to Japan in March to meet and exchange information with the highest level of Japanese leaders in the government, business, and cultural sectors.
