This report investigated Dedman College’s varied and wide-ranging commitment to community engagement in Dallas. In addition to documenting the extent of faculty, staff, and student service to the community, the report provided two recommendations for enhancing and focusing the College’s impact on Dallas.
Area Studies at SMU
February 20, 2013
This report summarized the continued importance of area studies in the twenty-first century and surveyed the faculty, curricular and organizational assets in African, Asian, European, Latin American, Middle Eastern, and Russian studies in Dedman College. The report made recommendations that would unify area studies efforts in one umbrella initiative that could best leverage the College’s strengths and take advantage of the opportunities inside and outside the university.
Scholarly Publishing and Tenure Task Force

This report surveyed the rapidly changing landscape of academic publishing in the early twenty-first century and assessed its impact on the tenure process in Dedman College.
Teaching Load Task Force

This task force considered a uniform policy for faculty teaching loads across Dedman College, especially as related to associate and full professors who are no longer research active.
This report surveyed the present state of undergraduate distinction programs in Dedman College and made recommendations to expand and enrich these important options for students.
Associate Professor Mentoring Task Force

This report assessed the state of Dedman College’s efforts to mentor associate professors toward promotion to full professor, with conclusions and recommendations.
Vision Statement for the Dedman College Institute for Interdisciplinary Research and Teaching

This committee, made up of faculty from across the SMU campus, students and community members, was charged with formulating an ambitious plan for the development of an interdisciplinary institute that would drive intellectual life and transform academic culture at SMU.
High Performance Computing

This committee, convened by the Dean of Dedman College and the Associate Vice President for Research, developed a university strategy on "high performance computing" (HPC), the design, development and execution of software intended to run on specialized computing facilities whose processing speeds and data storage capabilities are typically at least 1,000 times greater than what is capable using a desktop or laptop machine.
Undergraduate Advising Task Force

This task force evaluated the operations of Dedman College’s Offices for Advising and Student Records, and made administrative, organizational and procedural recommendations.
Space Policy Task Report
January 26, 2011
This report presented recommendations for a Dedman College policy that “provides consistent, transparent, and fair standards for the management of our space (from labs and offices to lounges and storage rooms).”
