Policies & Registration

General Policies

  • Classes are limited in size and spaces are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register early to secure a spot and avoid disappointment. Classes are subject to cancellation due to insufficient enrollment.
  • Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation with detailed location and parking information.
  • Credit cards and checks are accepted as tuition payment. Some classes require students to purchase additional text books or supplies, others do not.
  • SMU CAPE reserves the right to substitute instructors, change course locations, cancel courses, adjust curricula or schedules, limit enrollment or refuse service.
  • By participating in SMU CAPE, a participant agrees to abide by all University policies, including the SMU Student Code of Conduct and the SMU Code of Ethics. Failure to abide by these policies will result in participant dismissal.

Online Courses

  • Policies vary by course. Please refer to the course information for the policy or call 214-768-2273 if you have questions.

How to Register

  • Registration is quick and easy online. You may browse and register for classes by subject, instructor or location. American Express/MC/Visa are accepted.
  • You may also print out a registration form from our website and submit it by mail or by fax with credit card information or a check payable to SMU.
  • If you call or come by our office, a staff member will be happy to assist you with the registration process.
  • Students must register before attending a course; instructors are unable to accept registration fees or walk-in students who are not officially registered. 

Cancellations, Refunds and Transfers

There are many reasons why a student might require a refund or transfer from a course. If the course you have registered for is not meeting your expectations or if you have a situation that prevents you from participating in the course for which you are registered, we will gladly assist you. At SMU CAPE, we understand that your time is valuable. It is our pledge to you that we will provide excellent customer service worthy of your expectations. We happily provide the following options*:

Before class begins:

  • Students may receive a refund, minus processing fees, depending on program specific terms and days remaining before class start date
  • Students may transfer to another course free of charge if space is available
  • Student may elect to have full tuition placed in escrow to be used by him/herself or someone else within one year 

After class begins:

  • No refunds are offered
  • Students may transfer to another course free of charge if space is available
  • Student may elect to have funds placed in escrow to be used within one year depending on program specific terms

Refunds are not permitted for money placed into escrow.
