Workers Compensation

SMU's Workers’ Compensation Program is designed to provide income and medical benefits to employees who have sustained job-related injuries or occupational illnesses.

The information on this web site is intended to help answer questions you may have regarding how the workers' compensation process works. For more information about Workers' Compensation, please refer to the Workers' Compensation Manual.

Supervisors must complete the following within 48 hours after an on-the-job injury:

  • Report the injury to the Office of Risk Management (ORM) by the end of the shift
  • Conduct the initial accident investigation
  • Complete the First Report of Accident/Incident Form and return it to ORM within 48 hours
  • Contact us for the nearest Workers' Compensation approved facility
