Welcome to Fall 2014! It's hard to believe that the semester will begin in just a few short weeks. We've been busy this summer making lots of changes and improvements to prepare for a great semester. We look forward to welcoming you on campus and helping support your academic success.
Microsoft Office- Now Free!
You read that correctly! Students may now download and install the full Microsoft Office suite on 5 devices! The license is valid as long as you are an active student at SMU. For more information on obtaining the software, click here.
OneDrive for Business- Personal File Storage
Students now have 1 TB of personal file storage using Microsoft's OneDrive for Business. This storage solution will replace Locker.SMU for personal storage. Using OneDrive, files can be stored, shared with external individuals as well as synchronized across multiple devices. For more details, click here.
SPSS, SAS and more
We provide several applications for student academic use via apps.smu.edu. The software, including SPSS, SAS and more, can be accessed from any computer, anywhere in the world. Click here for details.
Students are also eligible to download Mathematica for academic use. Click here for details.
Technology Discounts for Students
Take advantage of the technology discounts available to students. This includes hardware purchases from Apple or PC vendors, Adobe applications, cell phone plans and more. Click here for the links to various discount information.
What do I do if I can't see a course in which I'm enrolled?
Courses are created and enrollment is populated automatically from my.SMU. The instructor has to make the course available in Blackboard before it will appear on your Blackboard page. Check with other students in that course to see if they can see the course listed or check with your instructor to see if they have made it available.
Can I remove all the older courses from my course list in Blackboard?
You can hide older courses by customizing your Blackboard screen. Click on the gear icon at the top of the My Courses section. Then hide the older courses.
Can I use the Blackboard Mobile Application?
Yes. Download the application from the iTunes store or the Play Store. Click here for more details.
Email Migrations this Fall
Beginning in September, all student email will move to Exchange Online- part of Microsoft Office 365. We will be communicating regularly throughout the migration as it will require you to reconfigure any device on which you access your email. The great news is that your email storage will increase and you get to keep your mailbox...forever!
Do you want to be part of our early adopters? If so, your mailbox would be migrated early in September and we'd ask for your feedback about the process. That feedback will help us adjust the communication and schedule for the rest of the mailbox migrations. If you are interested in joining the pilot team, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
